Celebration of Smiles at Jesse Valley Photography

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

April 18–20th, Jesse Valley Photography will participate with an elite group of photographers around the country in a very special portrait promotion. During that time we will be providing a wonderful opportunity for you to update portraits of yourself and any family members you wish. In doing so, you will help to support Operation Smile, which provides free surgeries for children around the world who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Along with other members of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), we are offering the gift of an individual portrait session and a desk-size portrait in exchange for a $24 donation to PPA Charities, which has chosen Operation Smile as its charitable partner. For every 10 individuals we photograph, another child will receive the gift of surgery! It costs as little as $240 for Operation Smile’s medical volunteers to provide a life-saving surgery that can take as little as 45 minutes. One hundred percent of each donation will go to Operation Smile.

We also believe that our Celebration of Smiles event is a wonderful way to teach children the value of reaching out to others. Even small children can understand the importance of Operation Smile’s work, and they are eager to help these needy children. We hope you will join with us in helping to make this vital work possible, and we promise to create a portrait that you will treasure.

To schedule your session appointment, which will take place at the Rose Garden at Lake Harriet, please call us today at 612/382.2867.

Family Portrait Month at Jesse Valley Photography

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Family portrait sessions are fun and memorable at Jesse Valley Photography. Whether at your home or a favorite park, we’ll capture your family laughing and interacting together. You can even include your pet! These artful and candid memories are perfect for holiday cards, gifts for grandparents and custom art for your home.

They say it’s better to give than to receive, so why not do both?

Enjoy giving and receiving in October during Family Portrait Month. For every family session booked, we’ll give a $50 donation to Operation Smile and you’ll receive $50 off your session.

Because of a busy wedding season this fall, weekend sessions are very limited. Call 612.382.2867 ASAP with your calendar and credit card handy. To reserve your session, you’ll pay the $100 session fee (normally $150) and $200 deposit. Weekday sessions can be at any location within 20 miles of Minneapolis. Or if you would like a weekend session, choose your location and date below:

October 2 at Westwood Nature Center (morning sessions only)

October 9 at Minnehaha Falls (morning sessions only)

October 15 or 16 at Lake Harriet Rose Garden

October 22 or 23 at the MN Landscape Arboretum

October 29 or 30 at St. Anthony/Main

Have you ever wanted to have family portraits taken with your beloved pet? “Portraits With Pets” is an opportunity to have portraits taken of—and with—your pets. The entire $50 session fee (regularly $100) from each photo session will be donated to The Pet Project. These hour long sessions will take place the following two weekend days in September (additional pet sessions during the work week available by appointment):

September 11 from 9 am–5 pm at Oak Hill Park in St. Louis Park.

September 25 from 9 am–5 pm at Lake Harriet in Minneapolis.

My First Magazine Cover

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

I’ve had my photography published on the cover of my first magazine: America’s Pharmacist. I know it’s not National Geographic or TIME, but I still think it’s pretty cool. Here is the cover shot and the accompanying article. All of the photos are mine except the picture of the old pharmacy.

Bid on my Photo Package and help two Charities (and get great photos!)

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

I love giving back to the community, because I feel so blessed by God to have all that I do and to be doing what I love in life. For the rest of this week, you can bid on a free photo session and 11×14 portrait with me here.

The proceeds from this national auction benefit The Mommies Network and Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (you can learn more about those charities by clicking on the links). And since this is a national auction, those of you not in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area can still help out by bidding on the prizes in your area.

Don’t delay; the auction ends Saturday August 13 at 10pm EST. Click here to bid.

Babies & Tots at Uber Baby

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Yesterday was the free mini sessions I did at Uber Baby. It was so beautiful outside that only a few people came in and took advantage of the free 8×10, but those that did turned out great. Keep tuned to my blog to learn about future events, and like my Facebook page.

My Photos at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

I posted a little while ago about my photography in the Wonder Years exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota (read the blog post by clicking here). I hope that you all will go and see it in person, because things are always best with first-hand experience. And there are so many interesting things to discover at the Science Museum.

But for those of you who are out of town or want to visit vicariously through my lens, here is a sneak peak of the exhibit. It can be hard to envision a 12 foot tall banner, but hopefully these photos will help demonstrate their true size.

Don’t forget to check out the television show Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance on Twin Cities Public Television, which includes my photos from this exhibit. Read my post about this here.

My Photos on Twin Cities Public Television

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

I blogged a little while ago about my photography being used in a permanent exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota (read that post by clicking here). I also found out that the same photos are being used in a television show called Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance on Twin Cities Public Television (tpt). I was told that they would stream the show online at some point, and when I find a link to it I will update this post.

In the meantime, be sure to watch or set your DVR for one of these upcoming showings (see the schedule and channel listing on the tpt website):

Sunday April 3rd at 12 noon on tpt Life Channel

Sunday April 10th at 6:30 pm on tpt MN Channel

Monday April 11th at 12:30 am on tpt MN Channel

Monday April 11th at 6:30 am on tpt MN Channel

Minneapolis Maternity and New Born Photography | Kelsey & Jake + Baby Brody

Friday, March 25th, 2011

I went to church and high school with Jake (he was even an usher in my wedding), and Jesse Valley Photography (JVP) photographed his Minneapolis wedding to Kelsey in 2007. Needless to say, it was very exciting to hear that they were expecting a baby!  They asked me to get some pregnancy pictures for them, so I brought my camera and lights to their house for a maternity session.

I love the portrait directly above, because it reminds me of a maternity version of American Gothic. Also, we found out that Kelsey often stood that way and used her belly as a shelf.

I love how their dog Shelby rested her head so sweetly on Kelsey’s belly—it doesn’t get much cuter than that. And their other dog Toby wanted in on the photo action, too.

Not long after their session, and in an ironic twist, they would find out after the delivery that the bun in their oven was a boy—not a girl, like they thought! And he was named Brody. Here are some portraits from his new born session:

Congrats you guys! You have an adorable little family. Thank you for having me photograph it!
