Fine Art Photo: St. Paul, Minnesota

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

This week we attended the official reception for the Wonder Years exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota. (I’ve already posted quite a bit about my photos in this exhibit, which you can see here, so I’m not going to say much now.) It was a lot of fun to roam around the museum and really experience some of the learning stations that are apart of the exhibit. Two of my favorites were the baby goggles (which let you see how poorly newborns see) and the video that shows a toddler make scale errors (click here to watch a video about this on YouTube).

This week’s fine art photo of the week is of Lisa looking out at St. Paul from the Science Museum.

My Photos at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

I posted a little while ago about my photography in the Wonder Years exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota (read the blog post by clicking here). I hope that you all will go and see it in person, because things are always best with first-hand experience. And there are so many interesting things to discover at the Science Museum.

But for those of you who are out of town or want to visit vicariously through my lens, here is a sneak peak of the exhibit. It can be hard to envision a 12 foot tall banner, but hopefully these photos will help demonstrate their true size.

Don’t forget to check out the television show Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance on Twin Cities Public Television, which includes my photos from this exhibit. Read my post about this here.

My Photos on Twin Cities Public Television

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

I blogged a little while ago about my photography being used in a permanent exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota (read that post by clicking here). I also found out that the same photos are being used in a television show called Brighter Futures: Childhood in Balance on Twin Cities Public Television (tpt). I was told that they would stream the show online at some point, and when I find a link to it I will update this post.

In the meantime, be sure to watch or set your DVR for one of these upcoming showings (see the schedule and channel listing on the tpt website):

Sunday April 3rd at 12 noon on tpt Life Channel

Sunday April 10th at 6:30 pm on tpt MN Channel

Monday April 11th at 12:30 am on tpt MN Channel

Monday April 11th at 6:30 am on tpt MN Channel

Wonder Years at the Science Museum of Minnesota | Photos by Jesse Valley

Friday, February 18th, 2011

I’m proud to announce the opening of the Wonder Years exhibition at the Science Museum of Minnesota. I was commissioned by the Science Museum to create 11 photographs for the permanent exhibit. Each photo is displayed on a three by twelve foot banner.

Located in the Human Body Gallery, Wonder Years is about the science of early childhood development. My photography helps illustrate the exhibit—with photos of young children playing and interacting with family and friends. Taking photos like these is always an important part of my portrait sessions, because I strive to capture my subjects’ personalities and relationships. To learn more about the exhibition, click here.

I encourage everyone to visit the Science Museum. Since Wonder Years is a part of general admission, you can also see it if you buy tickets to any special exhibition, like the new King Tut exhibit.

To all the families who were willing to participate in this exhibition—thank you. I had a great time photographing you and your children.

Wanted: Models for upcoming exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Jesse Valley Photography is teaming up with the Science Museum of Minnesota to mount a permanent exhibit looking at early childhood development (0–5 years old). The exhibit will include some of my photography on large banners that showcase children of various ethnic backgrounds. So I’m holding a model call this weekend for ethnically diverse children.

Bring in your kids and get a FREE family photo session—a $150 value—and more!

If you have ethnic children (age 0–5 years, black, Latino, Asian, Indian, Native American, mixed) or know someone who does, I’d like to have them in for a free photo session this coming weekend (October 23rd and 24th). In addition to the free session, you’ll also get a free 11×14 portrait ($105 value) and 2 free tickets to the Science Museum ($22 value). The only thing you have to do is sign a model release form that allows the Science Museum to use my photos in their display.

See your child’s face on display at the Science Museum

Please call me at 612-382-2867 to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. And forward this message to any of your friends who have or might know someone who has ethnically diverse children. I’d like to see you this weekend.

Thank you!
