Now is the time to go out and see the flowers at the Peace Garden near Lake Harriet. Or any of the great public gardens, really. They are beautiful!

Fine Art Photo of the Week XXXVI

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I love the scent of lilac blossoms, and I can smell them now as I’m posting this photo of some purple lilacs bursting into bloom. It’s amazing how scent can bring back vivid memories…both good and bad. For me, lilacs are the smell of Spring, which has come early this year. Happy Spring!

Magnolia Flower Unfurling

Friday, April 9th, 2010

One of my favorite discoveries last year was the biggest magnolia tree I’ve seen in the Minneapolis area, and it is only about 3 blocks from my house. I have stopped by and photographed its blossoms through out the week, and this is one of my favorite images.

Jesse vs. Lisa II

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

The long awaited Jesse vs. Lisa II is here! This time, instead of shooting digital, we went old school and shot using our film cameras armed with Kodak Tmax 3200 speed film. We love two properties of this film: the contrast and the film grain. C’est magnifique!

The rules: we had one week to expose one roll of 36 exposures. The assignment was to photograph the concept of light. Using the poll below, vote for your favorite photo or choose the photo that best represents the assignment. And leave a comment, we love hearing from you!

Fine Art Photo of the Week V

This photo is of the newest batch of fresh flowers that we had in our living room. Of course, this is after the tulips have wilted. I held my camera above them to show this unique angle. You can see our sofa at the top of the frame and my legs at the bottom.

Fine Art Photo of the Week IV

I might have forgotten to post this, but I did not forget to take the pictures. These were taken on an extremely windy day near the Stone Arch Bridge. During some of the wind gusts, it looked like it was snowing white petals (or pink petals, depending on the tree). Enjoy!

I found these little buds at a local nature preserve and made them pop with my on camera flash.
