Through May 14, you can see the following photo, which I made while traveling along the North Shore, in the Student & Alumni Art Exhibition at the Worthington campus of MN West Community & Technical College. It was on this campus that I sold my first fine art photograph, and it is also where I had my first solo art exhibition.

I’m excited to announce the next exhibition of my fine art photography. Come to my studio (click here for a maps.google link) on Saturday, September 26 from 7–10 PM and see the fall colors. This week’s fine art photo of the week is from Gooseberry Falls State Park. It was selected as one of the winning images in the Bluefin Bay calendar contest for the month of October (click here to see the info on their website, where you can also download the calendar as a screen saver). It was also displayed at the Waterfront Gallery in Two Harbors, MN.
Congratulations to all of the students that were accepted into JVP’s first juried art show! Each accepted student received a $25 gift card to Jesse Valley Photography. The opening reception was well attended, and featured delicious treats from Cream of the Cakes catering. The monogram JVP that adorned each cupcake was adorable!
Anticipation mounted as people waited for the declaration of the winning artists (not unlike on American Idol). And now to announce the winners to the world wide web (drum roll please):
Grand Prize: Brian Thue for his piece Spike. Brian will have a solo art exhibition at JVP in January. He also won $150 cash, a free Signature senior portrait session and $100 gift card to JVP. Congrats Brian!
Runners-up: Caitie Van Sloun and Madeleine Steinhauser. They each won $50 cash, a free Signature senior portrait session and $25 gift card to JVP.

As a fine arts major, I often wondered whether I’d be able to earn a living doing what I love most: shooting photos. Turns out, the answer is yes. But there was always that nagging doubt about whether I’d have to leave my dream behind and take a desk job at a bank (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Today I still wonder whether young art students even consider the possibility that their art could provide them with a livelihood. That’s why I’m hosting this art show; to encourage students to pursue their dreams.
